DIVISION B

SEEDLING & SPORT CLASSES

For Classes 20 to 26, cultivars must not have been in commerce for more than 18 months prior to the Show, nor exhibited in a Seedling or Sport Class at an NDS Show in previous years. All entry forms must include the name of the raiser. Any number of separate entries of different cultivars may be made. Exhibits must not be named until after judging has taken place. Exhibits should be judged for exhibition potential, with consideration being given for the cultivar’s ability to compete in its relevant group or section.

 

The "S and M BOWCOCK" Perpetual Memorial Trophy

Presented by J Bowcock Esq. will be awarded to the best seedling exhibit (Classes 20-24 inclusive).

Class 20 The J PARKINSON Trophy

One vase of a new British seedling, containing five blooms, of any type of a small, miniature or pompon cultivar (including Groups 1, 2, 3, 4, 10, 11,12, 13 & 14).

First prize £10; Second prize £7; Third prize £5.

 

Class 21 The NORTHERN COMMITTEE Trophy

One vase of a new British seedling, containing three blooms, of any type of a medium-flowered cultivar.

First prize £10; Second prize £7; Third prize £5.

 

Class 22 The RON NELSON MEMORIAL Trophy

One vase of a new British seedling, containing three blooms, of any type of a giant or large-flowered cultivar. Separate vases may be used if the exhibitor so requires.

First prize £10; Second prize £7; Third prize £5.

 

Class 23 One vase of a new British seedling, containing five blooms, to be judged for cut flower potential. (Not to be judged to exhibition standards)

First prize £10; Second prize £7; Third prize £5.

 

Class 24 The NOEL BRACEWELL CLASS

One vase of a new Overseas-raised seedling that has not been exhibited at a NDS Show in previous years. Any number of entries can be made. Exhibitors must show five blooms, of small, miniature, large pompon or pompon cultivars or three blooms of giant, large or medium flowered cultivars. Giants may be staged singly.

First prize £10; Second prize £7; Third prize £5.

SPORTS CLASSES

Class 25 One vase of five blooms, to include four blooms of the sport and one bloom of the parent cultivar up to and including smalls.

First prize £8; Second prize £7; Third prize £5.

Class 26 One vase of three blooms, to include two blooms of the sport and one bloom of the parent cultivar, medium and above. Giants may be staged in separate vases.

First prize £8; Second prize £7; Third prize £5.

 

Class 27 THE INTERMEDIATE CHAMPIONSHIP CLASS

Silver Medal awarded to first place

Bronze Medal awarded to second place

Bronze Card awarded to third place

(Open only to those who have not won a first prize in DIVISION A Championship Classes at any of the National Shows in previous years.) Not open to previous winners.

Seedling and Sport classes exempt.

Any 3 categories from the following (no category to be used more than once and all vases except (a) to contain one distinct cultivar only):

COLOUR CLASS

Class 77 A bowl of Dahlias (limited number of bowls available on request, but own bowls may be used).

To contain not less than twelve blooms, to be staged for frontal effect. Any foliage may be used.

To be judged by the Public between 12 noon and 3.00 p.m. on the first day of the show, on the basis of colourful impact. Freshness to be considered, but the predominant factor to be the appeal, effect and vibrancy of the colour.

Oversize rule does not apply.
