DAHLIA TRIALS

WISLEY GARDENS

These trials for dahlias for garden use are held in the Portsmouth Field at Wisley Gardens.Exhibition potential is also considered. Some 150 cultivars are tested including tall garden cultivars and bedding dahlias. Awards are given to each type after a series of judging sessions during the flowering season.

Cultivars are selected for trial in the following year by The Dahlia Committee appointed by the Royal Horticultural Society and the National Dahlia Society

These trials are for exhibition dahlias, and cultivars are grown with some under covers and others in the open to best assess how they perform in differing conditions. Awards are given after a season's judging, the overall best cultivar receiving the Harry Howarth Memorial Medal. Results are published in the Society's Winter Bulletin.

WELSH DAHLIA TRIALS

PENCOED COLLEGE OF HORTICULTURE

SOUTH WALES
These trials are held annually, with assistance from the staff at Pencoed College. Each year a Gold, a Silver and a Bronze Medal are awarded to the best three cultivars in the trial. The trials are judged for exhibition potential by a panel of NDS judges on five occasions from the end of August to the end of September
